Where have I been? To those of you who are reading this blog of mine, first I would like to say thank you and second I have had less time to focus on my daily life and art happenings because I have been here mainly. It's a creative endeavor that consumes most of my energy, in a wonderful way of course.

I do have moments of normalcy when I can do things that I used to do more of. Like contribute to Ship & Shape, an online shop run by friends Maddy, Erin and Annika. The shop is full of wonderiful items. Everything about it is so good.

Busy Summer

Summer is always busy. Last year around this time I was making wedding dresses in our old apartment, without AC. I don't know how I did it. This summer I moved into a new studio, and dove head first into shoe making. Its been super fun and I am just now getting hang of spending time away from home to work.

I managed to squeeze in two trips to Texas, but unfortunately I wasn't able to make it to California this season. I'll get there soon enough..

I have had the opportunity to contribute my art work to the awesome ladies of Brute Heart's sophomore album Lonely Hunter. The cover is a drawing that WE had in a show at Needles & Pens and also at the MAEP gallery years ago. Their record release show was so good and sexy. Love them.

I have been wanting to make shoes since I was a kid and I can't tell you how awesome it feels to be doing this. My friend Luisa came home from Colombia last month with tools and shoe making skills and has been passing it all along to me. With a little measurement conversion and practice we have been accomplishing so much together.

Wondering where I have been for like a year? I didn't mean for that to happen, it just kinda snowballed. I've been semi busy and have a new and exciting shoe project in the works. Our new place is really cozy and if I don't have to leave, I'll run in place for awhile for the exercise before showing my face anywhere. When I'm at home with little to do I have found myself making these pom ladies which is super soothing and allows me space out. I now understand this craft!

I have only been to a drawing rally once, which was @ Southern Exposure in SF and when I attended I thought that it was something that happened everywhere. Turns out I was totally wrong. Midway Contemporary is hosting it's own 3rd annual drawing rally this Saturday night and I'll be drawing my heart out during the last time slot. Sound like a gas, and you'll have a chance to pick up a nice drawing or two for only 35 buck each! Or, you can always just do the people watching thing..

I spent this past summer creating wedding dresses for friends. I learned so much over those few months, one of them being that if I for any reason will need a specific dress for a specific occasion I will not be touching a machine and I'll be commissioning a friend! They were each really happy with their dresses and it was a treat having a role in each ladies planning and night. It really was a pleasure.

The summer flew by and I was so productive that it started boring me to tears around the end of August. I'm fine now, I promise.

1. I'm getting rid of my black vintage roller skates. They are yours if you want them.

2. Dressing Room is looking and feeling extremely positive. The first show will be at the end of October, so please keep your eyes and ears open for news on that.

3. I'm still giving haircuts for trade, fyi.

4. Woody Allen's voice has gotten old and less annoying. It's annoying.

I've been having really great dreams this week. In Wednesday nights dream I had decorated a pair of white canvas shoes and gave them to a friend. He adored them. I remember explaining them to other people in my dream, so when I woke up there was no way I was going to forget.
After creating them in photoshop, I realized that they look so similar to my friend Annie's knit patterns. They didn't at all in my dream, but one I started with the paint tool, they transformed into something else. The orange circles were big metallic copper beads and the black was all embroidered. I'm thinking the next step will have to be three-dimensional. I'll get right on that in October..

I have been sewing like a mad person and having a good time! I've decided to spend the summer indoors and it's not because I have AC (cause I don't) but because I have been constructing shoes, making wedding dresses and have been taken on funny day projects. I've been pulling out the pencils and my envelopes stuffed with paper as to not loose that touch. I'm also writing for grants and have been showing art around town (this gets me outta the house).
Classes will start soon, and then I'll get a new car or new boots to beat the snow. For the first time ever I have found myself sticking my head in the freezer as if it was normal. This sticky heat is brutal. Bring me cold minus the holidays.

1. I did it. I joined the large networking party known as Facebook. I guess I felt like I had been missing out on certain functions(?) due to the lack of internet invitation emails that I wasn't receiving. Good enough reason? Probably not, but I will hopefully become so hip and so well informed of the cool parties around town that you won't be able to catch up with me. LET'S HOPE!

2. I haven't been enrolled in an institution for over 4 years until now. That's right, I'm now a full-time student. I've been able to focus on this instead of certain personal garbage along with some 'professional' issues that I needed to steer away from. I'm feeling refreshed. Industrial Sewing is the one class that I enrolled in last minute thinking that it would be good for me to go through and learn certain techniques that I have throughout the years just taught myself, which has always been anything but proper. I took a similar class while out in California but had a difficult time excelling due to me being naive and thinking that I already knew how to construct clothing. This gave me a big old fat D. Not a good mindset for the environment. Times have changed and I'm ready to get shit done the right way, though I still don't believe in measuring.

3. SHINDERS. The friendly artist and newly wedded Matt Bakkom has procured the vacant space that was once the home of Shinders downtown at 7th & Hennepin. He is curating a show that will be open throughout the month of October with an opening on the 9th involving a hand full of his friends. I'll be debuting my new art. I'm calling it 'Term Outfits' which could be viewed as completely non functional to those people who may lack imagination. Sucks to be them/you. So come on down and see some art in a space that will make you quite happy to be living in this wonderful city.

You are so beautiful. You and your stitching.
Your happy 'yes' thoughts just kill me. Things happen together as people come together under very casual circumstances. Things happen during the spring, and that has that excuse. Spring time brings the life. It shares the love from one to another and celebrates the past onto the present. Also under somewhat abnormal circumstances things can still bloom and form and live. Alison and I met a man tonight at the W hotel bar on the 28th floor of the Foshay Tower. It's a space that I have wanted to see with another, but tonight we ended up there with ladies in dresses and me in my norm. 'Fancy old man' was the last person that we 'should' have been talking with while celebrating a brides night out with her closest. We were out of our element from the beginning. He was a sweet old man with sweet things to say, so I guess this is where I begin. Most things in life seem to get long and old and life drags us in so many ways. The only thing that really seems to matter is the idea of what is/was is that I/we have that to have happen or to slay. Life is moving and will always be moving. I'm 26 in a month and a half. Life is good and great.
Keep on with your stitching because it's keeping me alive.

Any kind of 'performance art' can be a tricky thing. Unfortunately I find myself disinterested in most that involve movement/dance, but I have been swayed to the positive side by Crystal. I have taken on the duties of creating costumes for her upcoming performances and so far things are looking swell. Check out her website to see the wonderful things she does. Make sure to watch 'The Default Project: C.L. Meisinger in Typing' on the third page of the installation/performance section. So good.
I've needed to get back into the textile state of mind. It's no longer ass cold in my sewing room due to the degree outdoors so my hands can now function without the use of gloves.

I'm hopeful.
I miss your dirt. I miss your smell and chill. I miss your daylight and your late Monday nights. I was thinking about you the other day while standing in my bathroom. I own a framed postcard with an image of a smiling woman whose arms are stretched out in front of her while standing in the Redwoods. I replaced it with a old torn map of the Bay Area while it was on loan for the purpose of a having a bit of California in Minneapolis for the month. She's now back and now lives in the hallway outside the bathroom. I got used to the map and so I didn't move it. Anyways, I had the terrible thought while hanging her that it may be awhile until we meet again. I have somehow become a bit more responsible and have come to realize that I can't just skip town and take off. I know, it's a terrible thought. I don't want to deal, but I've found myself deep in this kick of honesty and well, this fits the bill. I'm privileged to have the time that we had together, and to have met the finest of folks through you and your beauty. I still loved you through those shakes and rumbles, steals and deals and most importantly, the high price of your worth. I should have realized what I had at the time, but so it goes.
As a side note, I've found that tennis ball cans are perfect for holding sandwiches. Two Jasmin Deli sandwiches will be shipped overnight to the lovely LOLO for him to enjoy and also remember what it is that he could have everyday (closed Mondays) if he only lived here. I know that he wants to raise his future babies in this fine cold city, so what's the rush? No rush. He'll be here soon enough. In return I shall receive my favorite burrito from my favorite shop, El Metate. The place where the Midwesterners love to eat partially due to the fact that it was located down the street from the house that was filled with Minneapolis friends and possibly our hotdish-like love for mushy sweet foods. It was also on route from BART and if you timed it right you could make it in time to bring a burrito to the party. The Californians didn't seem to like it there. I didn't seem to like what they loved. We managed to deal with this dilemma over a trip to several burritos shops until we could all be happy.
So, this is all I can give you for now. I do love the thought of stealing my good friends from you. It's a hard thing though with your fucking beautiful weather and all. I hope that we can meet again soon.

P.S. Enjoy your sammys Loren and please don't forget about the sour cream issue. Your right, it would have been a bad idea.

February is gone. The partition was built a month ago, which really feels like hardly a week and details of the construction are already a bit fuzzy. Monica got into town on the 10th and starting the 11th we began living behind the thick wall, under stitched lace and then finally inside what seemed to become a teenagers club/cave. I'm beat.
'Our Starry Universe' was the place where we found no rest. The sun never woke us and the night ceased to exist. A few of my fingers have been sliced and diced from so much wood and metal. My knees are cut and bruised and I've got some new fancy lines on my arms. I'll never see tetris the same way or finger knitting at a book fair for that matter. New friends were had and old friends made it into town.
I need a licorice break.
It was nice seeing so many beautiful faces at the opening this past weekend. Maybe the cold will clear up enough to get us all back on our bikes by the time we take the whole thing apart.

My life has been fuzzy for the past few months. It may be all of the snow or the lists that I have made and then tried to forget. I do write them and do try to a get at least most things done, it's just the simple, enjoyable and less time consuming ones that I have problems with. Taxes are a cinch. Bills are a breeze. Things like sitting down at my sewing machine to finish a project or calling people to say a few words have been the trouble. I would much rather sit in the tub and read comics than do anything at all.
A few days ago I picked Loren up from his younger sisters ballerina performance in St. Paul and have had the pleasure of hanging with him before he takes off on his cold road trip. We had a few real conversations about pastries and catering. Pectin and alcohol are the key. Maybe I have said too much? Ask about our brunches.
Today Kiki and I had a full fun day of shopping. First Diggers, then Unique. Sooo much good junk and things for friends. I like picking up treasures hoping that someday I find someone who will love or need it all. I bought an nice hunters cap that didn't fit and later found out that Loren tried to find a similar one online a few weeks ago. He wore out his black baseball cap with the letter P on it, so I thought it would only be appropriate to pass that on. Totally fitting, right?

Things are moving along otherwise, they have just been slowed by the extreme cold, large amounts of snow and crazy days.

The best of the friends. We were hired to set up the theme and space for the MCAD Black and White ball. Newgothinternet was born and we painted big things, small pinwheels + spiral cones. SUCCESS!

This past summer has been so busy and full. Tons of art, traveling, hording, cleaning, lake time, and new friends. We do have a few things to look forward to for this next horrid winter. We've got a show with Monica at Art of This at the end of February. One project thats in the works is a blog that will include a handful of beautiful people who will be posting their latest projects. Things are moving slowly with that on my part because it's still semi nice outside and I have to take advantage of it before it's gone, forever. I've got no reason to rush. I'm also making personalized funnels for my ladies friends. More to come with that.

Lately I have had trouble finding the time to hang with my girl friends. Most of my time is spent working on my own projects, the things that Aaron, Eric and I have got to get done, or watching all of the movies that I never wanted to watch when I was younger. Movies about aliens and more aliens. Before living with two buys I lived in the Oakland house with a bunch of wives. The closest thing that I've got to what that house was like is this guy. I love cats now. I used to think that they were evil, but Peter the cat is the best cat I've ever hung out with.
I would like to apologize in advance to all of my friends that will have to listen to me talk about my new boy habits.
